May Flowers are so beautiful and they smell sweet too!  The rain may have returned but it sure does help us to stay in and revise for exams!

Okay - so it is exam fever time.  At the end of the month many will start breathing a sigh of relief as the tests are over.  Others will just start to hit the panic button as they realise that you can't just put the books under the pillow - you have to read them too!

This month we look at remedies for anxiety and exam nerves and we have a quick energy boost recipe to help you leave the chocolate bars in the fridge!

Plus - because we love you so much we have two offers for you.

EXAM FEVER
There are so many remedies to help with exams, the most important one is your constitutional remedy.  So what do you do?

Well, the Bach flower "rescue remedy" is a great support to have in your pocket.  Put a few drops in your water bottle and sip through out the test.  It helps you relax and so may help you recall all those facts you have (hopefully) crammed.

Breath deeply and slowly.  This will help you reach a meditative state and so make recall easier.  (When we panic we are putting ourselves in the wrong place to remember - it is like shutting the door and losing the key).

Keep off the sugar - I know it is a now boost to the energy levels - but there is a price to pay.  Did you know that excess sugar can create anxiety like symptoms in the body - not what you want really.  How about having a bowl of salad made up in the fridge and some nut meats or (if you are a meat eater) grilling some extra portions of marinated chicken breasts the night before.  This way you can replenish your energy quickly.

Hemp is good for the brain - and I don't mean the one you smoke.  Hemp seeds are an excellent vegan source of omega oils (you know - the ones we need to eat to make us brainy).  So if you do not fancy three portions of oily fish a week, why not have either the seeds on your salad or some hemp protein in your smoothies!

Exercise - I know you can't really get up and go for a jaunt when in the exam room - but whilst revising and before and after the tests get some fresh air. Take a stroll and breath that oxygen into your lungs.  That way you should not be yawning quite so much!

Remedies - as I said earlier, I have a list longer than my arm for anxiety remedies.  Having said that, two common ones are Gelsemium for those "I need yet another wee - how many can I do before a test" when you have been 15 times in the last 15 minutes.  This remedy is also great for exam hay fever and exam colds.  Another common remedy is Arg-nit, if you need this you might find yourself saying things like "what if...."  See if you can spot either of these remedies in your friends.

All the above remedies are available form
Dawn or phone 01206 735 780.

If you feel you need help with treating anxiety, please call Dawn on 01206 735 780 or email for an appointment.

Recipe
This month I have a super easy recipe for you.

Pink melon whiz

for this you will need a blender, a chopping board and a knife

ingredients (for one person)
1/2 small sweet melon
1/2 punnet strawberries

what you do
remove the seeds and rind from the melon.  Chop the melon flesh into cubes.  Put the chopped melon flesh in to the blender.

Remove the stalks and leaves from the strawberries.  Chop in to pieces appropriate for your blender.  Add the strawberry to the blender.

Whiz it up until smooth.

You can either pour into a glass and drink through a straw - or if it is really hot (always the optimism!) and you want to avoid revision for an extra 5 minutes, add some ice cubes at the end and whiz for a bit longer - then you will have a pink melon fizz whiz (mmmm!)

either way, sit back and enjoy!

If you need help reducing sugar or changing your diet, Dawn offers 1-2-1 consultations to help you find an eating pattern that suits you and your health.  Call her on 01206 735 780 or email
