Forest School Sessions
Our beautiful forest school is set in 18.5 acres of private land that is a blend of woodland, meadowland and marshland and is based in Brightlingsea.
The farm is managed for conservation and nature, so you will be among varied habitats, flora and fauna. We are blessed that at some sessions the wildlife join in. With ducks often waddling up close in the winter, and game birds joining in the fun in the warmer months.
Bug hunting is a favourite activity, with children finding and identifying species that are not so common to the average garden. Whittling, fire lighting, cooking, den building, foraging, natural crafts, painting, mud kitchen and so much more is generally on offer. All activities will fit into the curriculum, and provide a springboard to inspire extended home learning if desired.
We have an outdoor covered kitchen area and permanent log shelter to enjoy the fun what ever the weather. Please scroll down to the gallery at the end of this page to see some of the wildlife and activities we enjoy.

About the Sessions
There is one all age groups session (use the "Book Forest School Sesssion" button and then please scroll down the booking system list to find the sessions).
For 2023 I am working to introduce more ID opportunities, as I feel it is essential we know the world around us.
All age Forest Fun - these sessions are open to children of all ages. Parents are invited to stay (essential for children ages 8 and under and also for any children with SEN or disabilities). This is a space as much for the parents as it is for the children. So grab a log and chat and craft, or help your child create, climb a tree or make a mud pie - or what ever they are drawn to join in with.
This session is held on alternate weeks starting in March Wednesdays (11.30am to 2.30pm)
PLEASE NOTE - DOGS are not permitted at Forest School. If you wish to bring a dog with you, your dog must stay in the car. If your child has a dog for disability purposes, please get in touch before the session so that appropriate planning can be made. Thank you for your understanding.
More information is available on the booking site.
If you have any questions, please do get in touch.
Please see the photos below for a glimpse at some of the activities we do.

The Forest School ethos is very holistic. I home-educated my children for many years - and one of their greatest joys and classrooms was the great outdoors. Within our outdoor environment we can connect to our history and heritage, our sciences and our need for connection. In fact, much of our curriculum can be learnt whilst enjoying nature. |
I enjoy sharing natural craft outdoor skills with those who attend the sessions. The ethos of Forest School includes regular sessions to help build confidence, skills and relationships. For this reason I ask that you book a block of sessions to discover about yourself and your environment. We all learn so much from enjoying the seasons and nature around us.

Each session is an adventure in its own right, the sessions are child lead, so no two sessions are ever the same, and the inspiration that I bring may not be the session that is delivered (because we work with the childrens imagination and inspiration, not to a lesson plan). Here are a few photos of some of the amazing activities we have had in the past (but I do not always have my camera on me!)
