Natural Health Practices have been around for eons, and they were all developed through observation and understanding how our bodies worked, observing the effects of the seasons and the needs of individuals. Whilst they all have slightly different ways of working, what they all have in common is that there is no one diet that suits all. They also identify that there is not one season of the year that suits all either.
Why am I telling you this? Well, in my ideal world, we would all eat healthy foods and keep well, but that is pretty boring - right! So if we are enjoying life and eating out / socialising etc, when it comes to detoxing, some people find they want to kick start a detox in January, and they feel good for it, and stick to it. Others may find that January's good intentions last for 48 hours before slipping away, but spring is a good time for them. Whilst yet others find summer that moment when they switch to clean eating. If you are being honest with your self, you will hear when your body wants and probably needs to detoxify. When it needs some extra support in keeping well.
To work out when you need to detox, I want you to look at how often you get ill or just simply feel run down. Make a note of that. Is there a pattern - for example, do you have a heavy cold every Christmas, stomach bugs every Autumn?
This is a clue for you. Now plan 3 or 4 weeks prior to that. That is when you need to start moving your diet into a healthier plan. That is when you need to up your water intake (can be warm water, it does not have to be cold) switch up meals to have lots of fresh clean ingredients, and slow down or even switch off the alcohol and coffees etc. Oh, and that extra sticky bun on Friday cake day - switch it to a piece of fruit, or if you really have to, consider a Keto cake.
In addition to your detox, pay extra attention to rest and recuperation. Afterall, if you get a bug, you are going to have to stop and rest. so why not invest in rest and enjoy it, rather than being forced to rest and not enjoying it! Of course, I apprecaite this is not always possible, but at least look at your options,
So how do you detox? There are several methods you can explore. Intermittent fasting, water fasting and clean eating are just three examples you could consider. Clean eating possibly being the easiest. To clean eat (as with all three examples) make sure you get plenty of fresh clean water. Additionally, eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, and eat light meals. Maybe using a portion of quinoa or millet to help you feel satiated.
Keep items such as cakes, pastries, sweets and crisps, wheat and dairy minimal, and also switch out tea, alcohol and coffee for herbal teas.
In addition to working on your consumption, you need to ensure you rest well, exercise regularly. Meditation is also a powerful tool during this time. When we detox many emotions can surface, so owning those emotions before they own you is a really great way to move forward.
When we detox, we can have headaches and become irritable. If this is the case for you, consider using nux -vom 6c. If you would like to support your kidneys and liver during a detox, look at dandelion tea (do check with your natural health practitioner that this is suitable for you).
