Early in advent we talked of the blessing of candles at this time of year. The Yule time season is a festival of light, and so candles are truly important.
Have you ever had a go at making your own candles? If you have thought about it, but been put off by the potential mess and the amount of expertise you feel you need, you could consider beeswax candle rolling instead.
This is such a simple activity, and so much fun to create.
There are kits available on may of the selling sites.
To make a beeswax candle you will need a sheet of beeswax and a suitable length of wick. If the wick is too thick, the candle will burn too quickly, it is it too thin, it will burn too slow, or just go out, so size is relatively important. You will need to consider the size candle you want. When I first started making beeswax rolled candles, I purchased a kit, which supplied the beeswax sheets and the wick, which will need to be cut to size.
To make this a simple tutorial to follow, I picture speaks a thousand words... so I have taken a series of photos of the process of making a candle (this one is for a birthday cake, so is small, but you will get hte idea)

1 - Cut the wick to size
You will need enough to over lap each side of the wax sheet. allow about 1 inch wick for lighting (this can be trimmed if you leave it too long).
2 - Set the wick into the wax
Now gently roll the edge of the candle next to the wix so that the wick is held in place. The warmth of your hands should be enough to allow the wax to mo

Step 3 - Roll the candle
Now for the fun, gently continue to toll the wixk into the centre of the was sheet that you are using. Take it slow, as you will want to keep the ends even for a flat bottomed candle. As you improve your skills, you may want to taper the end to a point. Both ways are absolutely fine, but will look best if you take tiem and patience.
4 - Finished
The candle is finished. How do you feel, accomplished? You should, well done. Now all that is needed is a place to put it to complete your decoration, or perhaps like me you want to celebrate a Birthday with it. What ever your decide to do, remeber, you are part if thr eprocess.?
