It is so nice to get something in the post beside bills and junk mail. Once upon a time a Christmas card was a means to catch up with friends and family. An evening would be sest aside, pop some seasonal music on to play and have a few nibbles or a relaxing drink, and sit down to write a letter or sond notes in your card. Then a trip to the post box and voila, your seasonal greetings were sent out.
Now we have instant gratitude with social media, though not everyone gets to see our posts, unless we take the time to message directly.
Over the years it has become more and more the trend to pop the money in the charity box instead of purchasing cards.
I think now, more than ever, people can feel isolated, and a card arriving in the post is such a highlight to the day. It is something that can adorn the walls and forms a part of our Christmas decoration.
