Endometriosis is a condition where the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries or fallopian tubes. This can result in heavy and painful periods, pelvic pain, pain during or after intercourse, pain pooing or urinating during your period, nausea, vomiting and bowel irregularities again, during your period, and problems conceiving.
Both of these conditions can severely affect your day to day health, along with your mental and emotional wellbeing. This can lead to emotional eating, and craving foods that can aggravate your health even more (think of the need to have a packet of crisps or a chocolate snack).
If you are aware of what is happening in your body, it is quite empowering. It means you know the game the unhealthy part of your body is playing, and it means you can work hard to have strategies in place to avoid the trap, and grab something that will lift you up and make your days (and monthly cycle) brighter.
So here is my quick guide to altering your diet to make it easier to eat to feel healthier, and start to turn your monthly cycle round. To minimise the bloating, and make your periods more comfortable, and your mood brighter.
When you make these adjustments, it can be hard, there may be a die off period, this is where you may feel a little worse and feel a chocolate bar (for example) will make you feel better. You are right, short term it will make you feel better, but you are looking long term, you are wanting to be the change and to break the habit and the effects the wrong diet has on your personal circumstances.
Next month we will explore a simple suggested diet plan that may help you bring about the change you want, in the mean time, please start tweaking your diet, and bring in some changes, however small, as a step in the direction you want to start traveling.
